Welcome to JEC's Domestic Violence Online Course.

Welcome to the Judicial Education Center's (JEC) online course on Handling Domestic Violence Cases. This course is presented in eight weekly modules and includes video presentations, resource materials and listserv discussions.

What is the purpose of this course?
This course is designed to teach judges, commissioners, hearing officers, probation officers, court staff, and other professionals about domestic violence and encourage adoption of appropriate domestic violence-related programs and practices in courts throughout the state.

Who should take this course?
This course is designed for judges, court staff, attorneys, social workers, law enforcement, and other professionals working in New Mexico courts on domestic violence cases. The course is designed for both general and limited jurisdiction courts. The general principles and approaches discussed in the course should be useful to any court that hears domestic violence cases.

You do not need any experience using online courses!

How to Register
Register or login for this course in the black box at the top right of the page. Once you are registered, you can go to the Course Overview to familiarize yourself with the course. Naturally you are welcome to look through any part of the course if you want to get a head start! The only pages not accessible until the course begins are the Listserv Discussions, Email, and Course Evaluation.

Continuing Education Credit
This course qualifies for up to five Continuing Legal Education/Continuing Judicial Education self-study credits. Each module qualifies as one credit. The New Mexico Judicial Education Center is an accredited CLE/CJE provider.

All online courses and programs (except live webcasts) are considered self-study by the New Mexico MCLE Board. Under the NM MCLE rules, non-live online courses are subject to (1) the self-study limitation of five CLE/CJE credit hours per year, and (2) the restriction that self-study credits may be used only in the year in which the course was taken.

JEC will maintain a record of all CJE credits earned by judges of state and municipal courts. JEC will issue its certificate of completion to all course participants who watch all videos, complete all course exercises and participate in listserv discussions.
