Joanne Brown (Module
3) is Chief Counsel for the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families
Department. She formerly was a consultant for the Family Drug Court
Initiative of the National Association of Juvenile and Family Court
Judges, and served as a Commissioner for the Alameda County Superior
Court in California.
Sarah
Buel (Module 1, Module 2 and Module
8) is a Clinical Professor at the University of Texas School of
Law, where she started and now co-directs the Domestic Violence
Clinic. She also is a co-founder of The National Training Center
on Domestic and Sexual Violence. Her previous experience includes
positions as special counsel for the Texas District and County Attorneys
Association, prosecutor, victim advocate, state policy coordinator
and legal aid paralegal. A domestic violence survivor, Ms. Buel
has spent the past 25 years working with battered women, abused
children and juveniles within the legal system.
Officer
Robbin Burge (Module 3) is a detective with the Albuquerque
Police Department’s Special Investigations Division. She previously
worked with the APD Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART) and the
APD Gang Unit.
Lisa
(Rosalie) Chavez (Module 2) is the managing attorney of Native
American Programs for New Mexico Legal Aid in Bernalillo.
Hon.
Diane Dal Santo (Module 7) was a judge in the Second Judicial
District Court in Albuquerque for many years, where she was instrumental
in designing, obtaining funding and establishing the first domestic
violence court in New Mexico. Since her retirement she has served
as a trial judge on a limited basis, as appointed by the New Mexico
Supreme Court, and as an adjunct faculty member for the International
Law Enforcement Academy in Roswell, New Mexico. She is a former
teacher and Board of Trustees member for the National Judicial College
in Reno, Nevada.
John
Day (Module 3) is a criminal defense attorney with Rothstein,
Donatelli, Hughes, Dalstrom, Schoenburg and Frye in Santa Fe.
Hon.
Grace Duran (Module 4) is a judge in the Third Judicial
District Court in Las Cruces where she handles domestic relations
cases. She formerly was a Domestic Violence Commissioner and a Child
Support Hearing Officer in the Third Judicial District Court.
Robert
Geffner (Module 6 and Module 7) is President/Founder of the
Family Violence and Sexual Assault Institute and a Clinical Research
Professor of Psychology at the California School of Professional
Psychology within Alliant International University in San Diego.
He is a licensed psychologist and a licensed marriage and family
therapist in California. Dr. Geffner has written extensively on
family violence, child maltreatment and related topics, and has
served on state and national committees and as a consultant in these
areas. His Institute provides training and resources on domestic
violence, including an annual national conference.
Hon.
Theresa Gomez (Module 3) is a judge in the Metropolitan Court
in Albuquerque where she handles criminal cases.
Richard
Gonzales (Module 5) is a Professor at the University of New
Mexico School of Law where he teaches evidence, labor law and law
practice clinic, among other subjects.
Hon.
James Hall (Module 6) is the chief judge in the First Judicial
District Court in Santa Fe where he has served in the civil, criminal
and family court divisions.
Hon.
Angela Jewell (Module 4 and Module 8) is a judge on the
Second Judicial District Court in Albuquerque where she presides
over domestic violence cases and is creating an integrated domestic
violence court. She formerly was a Domestic Violence Commissioner
for the Second Judicial District Court.
James
Anthony Julian (Module 3 and Module 5) is a former Assistant
District Attorney in the First Judicial District in Santa Fe and
currently is in private practice.
Laura
Lopez (Module 8) is a former Court Monitor for the Santa
Fe Rape Crisis Center.
Dolores
Lopez Salazar (Module 4) is a Victim Advocate formerly
with the Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families in Santa Fe
and now
with the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe.
Robert
Rothstein (Module 5) is a criminal defense attorney with
Rothstein, Donatelli, Hughes, Dalstrom, Schoenburg and Frye in Santa
Fe.
Emily
Sack (Module 8) is an Associate Professor at the Roger Williams
University School of Law in Rhode Island, where she specializes
in criminal law, family law and domestic violence law. She previously
was Deputy Director of the Center for Court Innovation, with responsibility
for its Domestic Violence and Family Court Programs. She was closely
involved in the planning and implementation of New York’s
specialized domestic violence courts, and worked on the development
of that state’s first integrated domestic violence courts,
which bring criminal domestic violence cases and related family
matters together in one courtroom. Ms. Sack is the author of Creating
a Domestic Violence Court: Guidelines and Best Practices (Family
Violence Prevention Fund, 2002).
Stan
Whitaker (Module 2) was formerly a Domestic Violence Commissioner
in the Second Judicial District Court and is currently an Assistant
U.S. Attorney in Albuquerque.
